Haern, the Hunter
By Ryzant

Before there was order in the continent of Sapience, when the mortals were unclothed and without purpose, Lleis, Goddess of Renewal, posed a challenge to take pity on the mortals and create for them a place to live.  The gods responded to this challenge.  The winner of this contest was not the gods who built grand and elegant cities.  It was the god who built the beautiful trees of the forest, Haern, the Hunter.  Haern’s building of the trees of the forest provided many creatures many homes, food, and protection.  And because of this his realm includes all animals.

Haern was created by Varian to tend the cycles of birth and death in nature.  Haern seeks a balance of rhythm, rather than of stability.  To Hearn the hunt is about sacrifice and a clear decision of a greater good over a lesser good.  His interpretation of Good is the application of force in the appropriate time, space, and proportion.  Haern seldom appear to mortals, rather he prefers to work through other means.

Haern is the Divine Patron of the Sentinel and Druid guilds, the guilds who protect the forests.  Haern’s colours are crimson and ivory, and his symbols are a red bone claw on a field of white, and the open triad, a three-branched knot reminding of the Ways. The bear, the serpent, and the raven are held sacred by those who follow Him.
