Essay about Honor
By Wilhelm

Honor is one of the basic principles of the Paladins, and one of the pillars of valor of Lord Arion. But what does it mean to have honor, or to be honorable? It means that every action we take, on or off the battlefield, must be held to the absolute highest standard of what is right. Respect should always be shown to everyone, especially fellow Paladins. Over the time that I have been a member of the Paladins I have seen many examples of honor both good and bad.

I have seen the honor and respect shown to an aspirant as he was knighted, and I have seen squires disrespect a knight in public. What I have taken away from these experiences is that I desire to always hold myself with honor, and to never ever speak or perform any action that might dishonor myself or my guild in the slightest. I strive to always show respect for paladins in both public and private. I strive to be a role model for all novices to show them the path to honor. The paladins of old had a strict code that I feel should be upheld for all current paladins.

A knight knows only truth. A knight should never lie, nor should he ever try to conceal anything from his fellows. A knights word is his bond. To break ones word is to break your honor and your trust with your fellow knights. A knights loyalty is cast in stone. This means that knights should always be loyal to one another they should never try and exclude other knights, and they should always try to help a knight in need.

A knight is humble, patient, and chivalrous in all ways. This is the part of the code I see violated every day. A knight should never be a braggart they should always show humility whether they have won a free-for all or attained some great reward. Patience should be shown always. Novices need patience they do not need brief talks to go see some help file. The patience to guide someone is the true measure of a knight. Never should someone be blown off for asking a question, or asking for help.

Chivalry is to be unified in knighthood. To cast off ones cloak upon the ground for a lady, or prepare a royal ceremony for his lord that is chivalry. It is also to try to unify the knighthood. Not to go around in groups within the knighthood and never really interact outside of your tight group. You must be available to all knights always. You must do your part to unify not divide the knighthood. Only by being a unified guild can the Paladins truly be an honorable and just guild. The lack of honor in the Paladins today truly brings me sorrow.

I write this in the hope that we might turn back to that which made us great.
